Obituary for Jack Hopkins, Jr.
Jack Gibson Hopkins, Jr. was born on February 20, 1943, the son of Jack G. and Marjorie Rabb Hopkins, Sr. He died on September 27, 2012 at his home on Oakwood Plantation in Tensas Parish, Louisiana after battling pancreatic cancer for 25 months.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Hopkins was a graduate of Waterproof High School and Louisiana Tech University where he played football from 1961-1964. He was a member of the St. Joseph Methodist Church. Jack was a retired agricultural pilot and was Captain in the U.S. Air Force, where he was an F-4 fighter pilot for 10 years.
Survivors include two sons, Wade Hopkins and wife Amy of New Orleans, Louisiana, John Wesley Hopkins of Norfolk, Virginia; Three grandchildren, Dylan Hopkins and Dalton Hopkins of Waterproof, Louisiana and Scarlet Hopkins of New Orleans, Louisiana; two brothers, Myles Hopkins and wife Genevieve of Ferriday and Mike Hopkins and wife Brenda of Natchez; one nephew, Ben Hopkins; two nieces, Stephanie Arnett and Tiffany Howell.
The family would like to express special thanks to close friends Ann and Chris Mills.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm. Memorial services will be held at Wesley Chapel on Saturday, September 29 at 2 PM. Under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Ferriday with the Reverends Peggy Foreman and Ray Owens officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Charles Tucker, Larry Moss, Chris Mills, Dylan Hopkins, Dalton Hopkins, Ferman Ulmer, Jim Lackey and Bobby Wallace.
